Never

I mean Never
say to the female bartender-
"Honey, babe, do your worst."
In reply to her request of-
"What's your pleasure?"

No matter how much
eye contact you've made
with this complete stranger-
your lips forming the beginning
of a knowing smile-
escalating unspoken perceived contact highs
by deepening the intesnity
of your-by now meaningful stare

"Are you sure that's what you want from me?"

Never
ever say, "Absolutely, babe."
thinking you can handle
the toughest stuff that comes down
the pipe

Never
actually thinking
just how bad the worst could be

Downtown Barbie

Disconnects the phone
pulls down room
darkening shades

pours herself
a triple Kamchatka neat
right from the freezer

for her high noon
breakfast
of BBQ Chips
and Vodka

pops a couple of color
coded pills:
pink is for complexion
blue is my favorite eye shadow
red is for portein
yellow as my hair
dye

Who knows what
these pills actually
are supposed to do
for you

Turns on her wall
of TV's with
a universal remote

Every avilable
cable channel known
to man

Expensive but
worth it:
Spice Channel
pay per views
adult channels
1,2, 3

Puts her cell phone
on the permanant
Off position

settles in
for the day

The workingman's friend

he was so
butt ugly
the only way
he could get
a woman in
bed with him
was with
the business
end of a stolen
service revolver
and he always
had a couple
of those on
hand in case
the first one
jammed

angel of mercy

she was an
after hours
angel of mercy
fresh from
working the grave
yard shift in ER
taking mother's
little helpers
with her morning
OJ in quart
glasses with
grenadine
dispersions
triple shots
of white tequila
then straight
mescal 'til
the bartender
asks her if she
wants the worm
she says,"What
kind of question
is that? Of course
I do."

glory

the apex of his
athletic career
was in eleventh
grade-all divsion
all county
all state
full scholarship
offers from division
one schools assured
until his knee
got torn up
derailing sure
on the way to
the hall of fame
career or so
his old man
sd. to anyone who
would listen
as he did his
pops & beers
'til he could
no longer speak
'til he felt
those still strong
fullback's arms
beneath him lifting-
carrying him out
into all the morning's
glory
